Notes: Facsimile reprint of the first English edition. These two great volumes represent the principal didactic legacy of Viollet-le-Duc’s career. The 20 lectures of the ‘Entretiens’ had been published at various dates during the author’s lifetime, some as seperate pamphlets. ‘They did not offer a coherent theory of architecture but rather an array of essays and commentaries outlining his pre-occupations and prejudices.’
