Notes: Hilberseimer's notable work, ‘The New City’, 1944, looked specifically at urban problems. The present work deals with the city regional scale. It advocates Mumford-like ideas of regional planning ‘integrating agriculture and industry and merging vast territory into an organic self-sufficiency.’ Much of what the author suggests seems very relevant today.
