Published: London, HMSO,
Date: 1963.
Description: xiv, 224pp, hundreds of maps, photos, diagrams etc (incl colour) Cloth, 31x22. Would have been a fine copy but in the past has had the dust wrapper cellotaped to the inside of the cover, so old cellotape remarks remain. Apart from that, a very nice copy with like faults on the dust wrapper.
Notes: The famous Buchanan Report. British cities should be redesigned to accommodate the motor car. The report naturally had important conservation implications. Buchanan’s ideas are still valuable and we find an interest in this volume worldwide. However, the author’s segregation ideas now seem to be counter to current thinking on shared space and traffic calming ideas. Also a striking example of 1960s book production.
