Dublin of the Future. The new town plan, being the scheme awarded the first prize in the international competition. Volume One of the Publications of the Civics Institute of Ireland. ABERCROMBIE Patrick, KELLY Sydney and KELLY Arthur

Dublin of the Future.

Published: The University Press of Liverpool and Hodder and Stoughton, London
Date: 1922
Description: xvi, 58pp, 37 plates, 4 fold out maps (map 3, Tramways, is missing). Dedication dated 1923 from Patrick ABERCROMBIE to SD ADSHEAD and SC RAMSEY. 33x26, boards, cloth spine. Boards are somewhat rubbed, and the binding is cracked with several pages and plates loose - and Map 3 is missing entirely - but otherwise very good copy of a very rare and fragile item.
Notes: This was Abercrombie's first and groundbreaking plan. His entry, drafted with partners Sydney and Arthur Kelly, had won the prize for a new plan for Dublin in 1916, but the WWI and then Ireland's independence and subsequent civil war meant that the plan was not published until 1922. ABERCROMBIE's personal dedication to ADSHEAD and the latter's protegé RAMSEY makes this a unique item.
