Published: London, Sampson Low, Marston & Co,
Date: 1892.
Description: vii, 208pp incl 263 figs plus 28 single-sided plates. Embossed cloth, 23x15. Spine pulled top and bottom, edges of two pages poorly cut else nice copy.
Notes: Author claims to have been asked by his own and other students to write a book on ornament more advanced than those currently available. Certainly today’s equivalent of elemetary schoolchildren would find this difficult. He tries to organise the subject systematically. The author was head of the wood and carving department at the Royal Polytechnic, Regent Street, London. Interesting Victorian study
