Notes: Stacy-Judd (1884-1975), was born in London and after some time working as an architect, illustrator and writer, emigrated to the USA, eventually settling in California. He created a sensation in the 20s with his design for the Aztec Hotel near Los Angeles which was hailed as a ‘new style ....in every sense of the word indiginous to the New World’, incorporating Mayan and Aztec motifs into the architecture of Southern California. Interesting account of this maverick architect, although author seems convinced that Southend-on-Sea is in in Sussex.
