| "Freeland". HERTZKA Theodor Dr Freeland.A Social Anticipation. Translated by Arthur Ransom xxiv, mostly translator's notes, 443pp. Cloth, 19x13. Vg. London, Chatto & Windus, 1891. The author (1845-1924) was a Hungarian/Austrian economist and journalist. He has been called the Austrian Bellamy because his 'Freeland' follows in the footsteps of Edward Bellamy's 'Looking Backwards'. It describes a model society created in a remote part of East Africa. His society was gentle, pleasant and hard working. The book was well received in England and the USA. Unusually nice copy. [Ref:25823] |

Wraps, with fine coloured artist's cover. A little spine wear, tear to one page, but a nice bright copy. Paris. Superb special issue of "L'Illustration", packed with information and lovely art work, on workers' and other popular housing, especially model schemes. These include Bournville, Welwyn Garden City, as well as a great many schemes from France, Belgium and elsewhere, making this a very good comparative document on the whole subject.
