Beautiful official edition, which has the lovely patterned binding, of this extremely interesting work. A l'Exposition Universelle de Lyon en 1894. viii, 284pp incl text ills + 34 single-sided plates + fold-out plan of the Colonial section. Large quarto wraps. 33x26. Minor wear to edges of prelims, otherwise a nice copy, some pages uncut. Lyon, A-H Storck, 1895. A detailed description of the Colonial section of the Lyon World's Fair of 1894, and one of the first of such specialist exhibitions. (Later, some were to be held separately, for instance the Paris Colonial Exposition of 1931.). The various pavilions are described in detail and there was an "Exposition des Missions", as well as a "Village Nègre" (there is a striking photograph of this last). Only French colonies were represented. Very scarce. [Ref:24588] |

Essentially a report on the whole exposition. This was a major expo in the style of the great Chicago Colombian World Fair. Minor soiling but a nice clear image. c1898 The Great Wheel was a major attraction for several of the Earl's Court exhibitions. Its scale seems to rival that of the London Eye. [Ref:26244] |

1901 Pan-American Exposition, Buffalo. ROBERT ALLAN REID (publisher) One Hundred Views of the Pan-American ExpositionBuffalo and Niagra Falls. An up-to-date Souvenir Booklet....with a brief descriptive guide to these great attractions. Frontis bird's-eye artist's view, unpaginated (78pp), including many b/w photos. Wraps. 23x16. Good copy. Buffalo, 1910. An interesting, well illustrated guide to this splendid Exposition. The Electric Tower, lit up at night, was a great centrepiece. The Fair's many varied features included "Turpin's Panopticon", Roltair's "Upside Down House", war dances from 'Darkest Africa', Hawaiian & Philippine native villages, US and foreign pavilions and much else. Unfortunately, when US President McKinley visited for a public reception on 6th September, he was assassinated by a lone gunman, Leon Czolgosz. The Exposition never fully recovered. [Ref:24058] |

Düsseldorfer 1902. 30 high-quality, full-page photographs. Embossed stiff linen covers with gilt lettering, tie, 20x29. A good copy. Düsseldorf, 1902. This Exposition was especially important for its industrial pavilions, including for railways, handicrafts and machinery. Some big German companies had their own Halls, including Hoerder, Bochumer Vereins and Krupp (who were showing off their latest massive battleship guns). There were also Nubian and Arab villages, a Kunsthalle, Festhalle etc. Stylish souvenir item with excellent images. [Ref:26427] |
